Water wells develop bacteria buildup over time that includes coliform and e-coli. These contaminants show up in bacteria tests and result in unsafe drinking water. Shock treatments can help eliminate this bacteria and keep your water safe.
The process of water well shocking involves first installing a chlorine mixture that disinfects the well column. Next, we’ll rinse the well casing with water containing a chlorine residual. This water will disinfect potential contaminations that linger from pests and insects. Finally, we’ll apply a high residual of chlorine to all water fixtures that will kill bacteria growing in the pipes.
After treatment, we recommend leaving the chlorinated water in all fixtures for 12-24 hours before flushing them from your home. You can recollect samples after we disinfect your system, or we can collect them for you. If you notice slime growth, staining in laundered clothing, or foul odors coming from your water, your system may have harmful bacteria growing within it.
The licensed and insured team at Berkshire Well and Pump Service recommends having your system tested yearly. Call today for more information or request an estimate directly via our online form.
